I Wonder if it's from Vermont?

It had been our plan from the beginning, to upgrade to granite countertops. Our salesman for the house told us not to purchase it through the builder because we would be paying a lot more than necessary (wonder if his brother, the president of Brookfield homes, knows he is giving out these handy little tips??).

On a referral, we called a company out in Ashburn and a guy named Mike came out last Thursday to do some measuring and give us an estimate. The price was reasonable, and as of 3:30 p.m. yesterday, we have granite countertops!!!

I have always (well, for a really looooong time) wanted granite. Makes sense for a girl from Vermont, where every fourth grader (at least in Chittenden County) goes to the granite quarries for a field trip! I think my sister and I both had pieces of jewelry from the gift shop... rings with little granite chips on them.... I didn't think to ask if this particular lot of granite is from Vermont, but I have decided to believe that it is, therefore, roundaboutly supporting the economy in my home state! But I digress.....

Here are some before shots of our kitchen, which you have seen before, but indulge me.

Ugh - the horrible sink:
If anyone ever thinks it's a great idea so have a much smaller, separate area on one side for the garbage disposal, IT IS NOT (not that I thought that - we didn't have a choice on the sink). I wasn't crazy about the faucet either. I'm a fan of pull-out sprayers, but this particular model isn't great. It's sort of at an angle, so you can't manipulate it properly to spray in different directions. I usually ended up spraying the wall behind the sink... Not sorry to see this sink GO!!!

They showed up about 20 minutes early (how often does that happen??), and I had to ask them to wait so I could finish clearing off the counters (and taking pictures for my blog...).

Here is my new granite (from Vermont) in the back of the truck...

And here are parts of the old countertop, lifeless in the front yard....

After five and a half hours, two installers, and two plumbers, VIOLA!!!

Absolutely. GORGEOUS. What a difference this makes.
And ahhhhh... the new sink, all in one big piece.
And check out that faucet!! A straigt sprayer that I can manipulate any way I want!!! And a soap dispenser!
Yes my friends, we've hit the big time.
