A rainy Saturday...

Well, Tropical Storm Hanna has come and gone. It wasn't too terrible. It rained all day, at times heavily, but it wasn't that bad in this area. Some neighboring towns got it much worse and were even being evacuated because of some flooding. Hopefully no one is suffering too much.

We survived our day inside. We did lots of playing and dancing (Tyler has his own iPod loaded with children's music). At one point, I got the brilliant idea to build a fort using the coffee table, cushions from the couches, and a king sized blanket.

Well, ok, not so brilliant. The boys kept hitting their heads on the coffee table and it was really hot under there!! Tyler likes to get under blankets, but I think he's still too young to get the concept of a fort. Maybe next year! They were much happier when we took the fort down.

By about 5:30, the storm was pretty much done so Tyler and I got out of the house and went to the grocery store. Tyler loves going to the store and riding around in the cart. He's really quite easy to go shopping with (grocery or otherwise) - a quality of his that I have always loved!! While we were out we saw a rainbow! I didn't have my camera with me so I can't prove it...

Then it was dinner time. This is what a messy boy looks like:

Tyler thought it was pretty amusing:

After dinner, it was bath time. This time, instead of just giving instruction, Tyler decided he wanted to climb in the tub with Evan.

The boys did do some playing together today, and I'm getting more and more daring about letting Evan be on the floor even with Tyler running around. It's mainly ok, but we have to watch carefully because at any moment Tyler could decide to jump on him, kick him, or throw something at his head (all things that happened today...). It isn't malicious by any means, he just isn't quite old enough to understand he needs to be gentle. But when he gets too close, Evan pulls his hair, so I'm guessing it won't be long before they are evenly matched and Mitch and I will need to constantly be playing referee!

Tomorrow is supposed to be back to beautiful weather so we'll get to spend some time outside - Yay!!!

Fun at Grammy's.

We are very fortunate to live close to Mitch's parents. One day a week, typically Fridays, the boys go to Grammy and Grandpa's instead of daycare. Then Mitch and I show up at the end of the day to a home cooked meal! It's very nice for all involved...

This evening, Tyler had his usual amount of energy, so I decided to chase him around a bit at Grammy's house... I caught a little bit of it on video:

Later on, there was a rare moment of him sitting still looking at a book:

And Evan suddenly is sitting up quite well - like he's been doing it his whole life!

They had a great day, and were very tired at the end of it! They both fell deeply to sleep on the car ride home and luckily transfered well into their cribs. Let's hope for a nice long sleep....

Hurricane Hanna - actually, I think it's down to a tropical storm now - is supposed to make its way through here tomorrow. The rain has already begun. Here's hoping it won't be too horrible and we'll have minimal damage in this area. Too bad it's coming through on a Saturday and we'll have to be trapped inside all day. And here's REALLY hoping that we don't lose power!

Off to bed now - it's been a long week!

Gettin' around

Ok, it's not full-fledged crawling yet (as I predicted would be happening by now), but it's a pretty good "army crawl"! Mitch says "Keep your butt down, soldier!!"

Bath time

A few weeks ago, I had to take the "sling" out of the baby tub because Evan got too big for it. I was curious to see how he would react to sitting directly in the baby tub.

So far so good!!! He was especially intrigued with his feet being in the water (this all happened before the day at the pool).

Big brother felt compelled to give some instruction...

...since he has been taking big boy baths for a really, really long time. FLASHBACK:

Just like his big bro, Evan really likes to splash around and it sure makes bath time easier for mommy when he's sitting up!

All clean!!!

What's the harm?

They say you shouldn't let your kids watch television at the kitchen table.... How about ON the kitchen table??

Mystery

How can a baby who was up MOST of the night be this darned happy at breakfast????

I know I wasn't that happy when I woke up... until I looked at that face of course! Oh well - at least it isn't Monday!

It's (un)official... summer is over.

Today is Labor Day (funny that we don't have to work on Labor Day...). The last holiday of the summer, and everyone is out planting their fall mums. I can tell you that the weather isn't cooling though - it is hot out today! The boys and I went for a long walk, and then we all went to the pool! Evan and I hadn't been since the beginning of summer, so I decided it was time for him to take a dip since the pool will be closed after today and it was his last chance. He was a bit unsure, but I think he enjoyed himself!

If you're wondering what that orange thing is on his arm, it's a UV ray indicator. When it turns color and the picture on it disappers, it means that it's time to put on more sunscreen. Handy little things that came with a package of swimmy diapers. Good to have especially for such a tender skinned little guy! Tyler is also very fair and we always coat him pretty well with the sunscreen - and you should see the tan on the little dickens (of course you can't really see it in the pictures)! I never would have imagined that skin would tan! But we still slather him up just the same.

Speaking of Tyler - he had his usual blast at the pool. He started off in the big pool with Daddy:

He had a great time. But then it was time to join the little ones in the kiddie pool. He's like an old pro in there...

It was a lot of fun today - a good way to spend a Monday!! And it tuckered the boys out pretty well - as soon as we got them home and changed into dry clothes they both went down for a nap! So here I am blogging when I should be trying to get some rest myself!! Maybe I still have time....
