Summer Part 1

The summer started out with some really big deals – Evan graduated preschool, and Tyler completed kindergarten!!

Evan had a great year – his last at Daytime Playtime.  He really enjoyed going, and worked hard getting himself ready to move up to kindergarten!  He is very interested in learning and I know he will do well in the fall!  Here are some pictures from his year:

First day - with Batman t-shirt and Batman backpack of course!

Then, of course, there was the graduation ceremony!  There were songs, and a little play – in which Evan recited his part PERFECTLY!  I was absolutely overwhelmed with pride watching my son on stage.  He is always “performing” at home, and I won’t be a bit surprised if he ends up a theatre geek like me. But in that moment, watching him, well, it took my breath away, and I hoped he could feel the pride that made me nearly bust! I wish I had just taken video of his part, but I recorded the entire thing, and it is just tooooo loooong to post here.  If I can ever figure out how to edit it down on my computer, I’ll post it!  In the meantime, here are some stills of the festivities:

The rest of the day’s activities were dictated by the graduate. So after graduation was over, we all went to the pool for a few hours to swim, hang out, and eat pizza!!

Then we came home for cupcakes!

And the dear boy was OUT COLD on the couch by 6:30 p.m.!

A fun and exhausting day for us all – and very emotional for mommy!

And then of course, there was the end of kindergarten for Tyler.  What a year!!  New school, new friends, new experiences all around – for us both!  Though I didn’t do nearly as much volunteering as I wanted to, and should have, I did chaperone two field trips – one in the Fall to Cox Farm, and the other in the Spring to the National Zoo, and helped out at a couple of class parties. There were some really sweet kids in Tyler’s class – and I sure do love being addressed by them as “Tyler’s Mommy”! :)

He did great! Ran all 35 laps - and it was a hot day!!

A gorgeous ring holder he made me in art class - I'll cherish it forever!

Here is Tyler at the “end of year picnic” (which had to be held inside because of rain), with his beloved Mrs. Cregan (on the right) and Mrs. Kutil:

Mrs. Cregan was about a month away from giving birth at that point!  She was a wonderful teacher and I’m so thankful for the interest she took in Tyler and the care she put into his learning experience.  She and Mrs. Kutil were a wonderful support system for him (and for me!) throughout the year and I will be forever grateful.

And here is Tyler on the last day of school:

Incidentally, the t-shirt he is wearing here is from the Glenkirk Knights 5K that we all did in the Spring. I ran it while Mitch walked and pulled the kids in a wagon. But Tyler joined me running for about the last mile and we crossed the finish line hand in hand! Wish I had a picture of THAT!! It was a blast.

He had a good year, but he struggled a lot with his reading and writing. We talked about having him repeat kindergarten, but decided that with some summer school and hard work over the summer, he should be fine for first grade in September. Here’s hoping!!!
