What a difference a year makes!! Today, Tyler is 6 YEARS OLD!!! So hard to believe. And I thought 5 was a big deal! What it is that makes 6 so huge, I'm not sure. It could be what my sister-in-law theorized, that this is the age when things start staying with you - things that you will remember when you get older. I certainly remember things from when I was 6. I have a few earlier memories, but not many.
Anyway, it's been a big year for my big little guy - some of which has been covered here, and some not, due merely to my delinquency. As you know, he started kindergarten this past year. Here are some shots from his first day:
Wasn't he handsome?? And so confident!
He wasn't nervous at all. Mommy and Daddy, on the other hand, were just a *bit* emotional!
And here he is at the end of the school day when I picked him up. He looks a little upset, but it was just that the sun was in his eyes. He had a great day!!
And the excitement has continued. He hasn't fought me a single day about going to school, even on the days when he knows that Evan and Maddy are going to spend the day with Fammy and Granddad. He enjoys going to school, even though he struggles with some things academically speaking. But, we work hard on it, and he'll get there.
So, from preschool graduation, to summer camp, to losing the training wheels on his bike, to starting kindergarten with all it entails - homework, field trips, new friendships, after school activities and a new independence (sort of!) - it's been quite a year for our little guy.
AND, because he is now 6, he is old enough to have his birthday announcement in the Kids Post section of the Washington Post:
Hard to see from this scan - but he's at the bottom left! I've got the original, and it will be laminated and put in his memory box for safe keeping. He was very excited to see his picture in the newspaper! Thanks Fammy!
Here he is this morning:
Six years ago, this amazing kid was born. Six years ago, we became a family. Six years ago, he knocked me off my feet, and I look forward to the adventure ahead!
Happy Birthday Ty-man! We love you!! xoxoxo
